Complete Beginner’s Guide to Using Discord
RazorbackTalk has moved from the old SMF forum to a modern Discord server. This guide will show you exactly how to post, reply, react, upload images, and navigate the new community.
1. Joining the Server
If you don’t have a Discord account yet, you’ll be asked to create one. It’s quick, free, and works on all devices.
2. Understanding Channels
On the left side of Discord, you’ll see a list of channels. Think of them like the old SMF forum categories:
- #arkansas-football – Game talk, analysis, and news
- #arkansas-recruiting – Recruiting updates
- #general – Everyday conversation
- Voice Channels – Live chat during games
Click any channel to enter it.
3. How to Post a Message
At the bottom of the screen, you’ll see a text box that says “Message #channel-name”.
- Type your message
- Press Enter to send
This is the Discord equivalent of posting a new message on the forum.
4. How to Reply to Someone
Hover over a message and you’ll see a small menu appear.
- Click the Reply Arrow icon
- Your message will quote the original post
This is similar to “Quote” on SMF.
5. How to React with Emojis
Hover over a message and click the smiley face icon.
- Add a thumbs-up 👍
- Laugh 😂
- Celebrate 🎉
Reactions help keep conversations fun and fast.
6. How to Upload Images or Screenshots
In the message box, click the + icon or drag a file into Discord.
- Upload game pictures
- Share memes
- Post recruiting graphics
7. How to Mention Someone
Type @ and start typing their name.
This notifies them directly — similar to tagging someone on the forum.
Need Help?
If you’re new to Discord, don’t worry — everyone learns quickly. Ask questions in #general and someone will help you get set up.
